Concept Art - King's Army ceremonial armor

Now, didn't I tell you Saéricians love to be decorated in gold? ;3 Their military is no exception. This is another drawing I sketched back in 09, and just recently finished with the coloring. This is the armor Tatiana will be first seen in when she enters the fair with the king and queen. The combat armor, of course, will be different - this armor is just the typical Saérician of showing off. The sun and the phoenix are very sacred symbols in their religion, so I used that as the main motifs. If you notice around the lighter-yellow trims, there are eye patterns around, which are very often used in armor as to say 'Eall watches over me, he sees all.'

The armor is very inspired by Indian and Persian armor, and again I use the hijab - which, by the way in this particular armor is not just limited to being worn by the women. The men also wear the same covering over their head. Another thing both genders would share is the eye liner. Whether it's the ceremonial armor or the combat one, both genders wear eye liner to make their eyes look more intimidating to their opponents.

I'm very happy with how the armor came out, as painstaking as it was to design (as just think about how many times this armor will be drawn throughout the comic! XD; ) I don't really feel much need to make any major changes, other than the shoes which feel a little out of place. Other than that, I just love this design. :D

Concept Art - Queen Agatha's Faire Dress

This is a concept drawing I drew back in December of 09. It's very much inspired by Persian clothing. One of the things I really like about this dress is how the aqua-colored top makes the rest of the gold tones actually pop and give this arm look. This is the Saérician Queen, Agatha wearing the dress she will be first seen in when she makes her entrance with her husband, and their delegation group.

When I first wrote the information for Saéricia, it was more of a Western European-styled country, with a bit of Russian mixed into it - hence why their names are more Western, when the newer version of this kingdom is more Middle-Eastern inspired. With that in mind, I designed a hijab on to her outfit. Unlike in the Middle-East, their hijab isn't religious law, more like social expectation. Once a woman becomes engaged and gets married, she's expected to cover herself up more as to drive away any one interested. Agatha, being the queen, is under much heavier expectations especially when there are foreigners involved, out of fear a foreign man will want to take the queen for himself.

Looking back on it now, almost a year later, I really want to make some changes to this dress. Saéricians have a love for gold, they love any chance they get to completely decorate themselves with it. Since Agatha's hijab looks far too simple for my tastes, I wanted to add more gold-colored trimmings and embroidery. Not only would this add to the beauty of Agatha's dress, but it would also be meant to lure gazes away from the queen's face and distract onlookers with the intricate designs. Another thing is Saéricians are huge showoffs - despite their religion, Eallism, teaching its followers to be more modest, they can't help but want to try to out do the other. Especially when it comes to foreigners; even in dress they want to seem interesting. mysterious and alluring to anyone who has never even seen a Saérician before. Another thing I want to change are the gloves. Their pink color blends in too much with her skin.

Other than that, I love this design, it flirts with the onlooker with its patterns and colors. I definitely want to refine it more before the final artwork of the comic.

Welcome

Hello, this blog will be dedicated to the process of a new manga currently being developed called "Vigilia Caelestis", based on the RPG created by Noah. It's a scifi/fantasy story about the complex political relationships between the five nations: Arüs, Tenir, Saéricia, Ishala and Eiraba. Oh, and there's mechs too - some with chainsaw swords, and others just plain badass.

It's a story that was created 2007. As time went on, we kept adding more and more, until it became a very rich and vivid story, with characters and places that were so detailed, it's like these places actually exist. Not too long ago, I proposed the idea to adapt the story into a manga. Members of our group were thrilled at the idea, and wanted this to happen. So, here we are today working to make this manga possible. But it's not going to be an easy thing - oh, no...As the artist of this comic, it's going to be the largest project I've ever taken on. I will be designing the characters, places, and the comic art itself. The story was written by all of us who contributed with our own characters.

So here, I'll be posting a lot of the concept artwork with detailed explanations of the image, its inspirations, the reasons why I envisioned it. This is where you will be able to see the process of that design work, and turn the descriptions written by us into the images you will see on pages. The manga will be in color, so I have plenty of work ahead of me. This story cannot be told in the traditional grayscale of manga, the locations in the world of Vigilia Caelestis are so alive with their palettes, they're almost characters themselves.

Well, wish us luck. We really look forward to working on the comic adaptation of Vigilia Caelestis. :3
